After visiting rural Iowa Rebekah was struck by how people were not leading with how important they are.
There was a culture of humility she didn’t have in her work.
Jamie was learning what it meant to work with art professionals and was a brand-new parent.  When Jamie signed up her daughter for daycare the daycare wanted to know what her daughter's (a 3 months old) preferences were.
Jamie was concerned with a culture that was socializing people to care so much about individual preferences and didn’t teach from an early age about community.
Humility can help you be a better friend.
We can shift our mindset to be a better friend and centers others
You before me.
It’s so important to decenter yourself and become aware of other people’s pull
Attributes that help to center others would be: being raised in an environment where we feel loved.
There are times there are things we are powerless to change and that’s important in developing a sense of humility. When you realize that there are things that are bigger then, you can accept and move on instead of fighting the problem the whole way.
Humility is Servant leadership
Libraries are about sharing
In the Library you, any you have as much right to that institution as any other human.  There is no transaction necessary.
Guides for humility.
Humility and humiliation, not all communities are perceived the same, so humility looks different in different communities
You go in and out of a state of humility.
Think about humility, but don’t make it the next juice cleanse.
Seek to take up the space that we are owed as humans.  Some of us need to take up more space and some of us need to take up less space.
There are times when we need to let someone else take up the spotlight.
It’s ok to be ordinary and strive for ordinary. We are one of many.
