A Letter To Little Alisha
A Letter to My Younger Self
Dear Sweet Lish,
You always thought you had to be so adult, so serious. You thought the weight of the world was resting on your little shoulders. You felt big emotions, you wanted to make an impact and a difference in the world. You felt that art and creativity were paramount.
Well, I think you’d be pleasantly surprised at how things have turned out. You’d be stoked to learn you own your own home and it’s old and full of character (although I think you’d be less stoked to learn about how old houses often have mice).
Your work in the world revolves around creativity, magic, and the emotions of others. Your work does make a positive impact in the world but not in the way you thought it would.
You’ll lose your way for a while after college, and you’ll stay lost for more than a decade. It turns out that’s all ok. None of that time is wasted. You’ll transmute those experiences into healing for yourself and others. Yes, there is heartache and heartbreak, all of which make the immense beauty in your life so much brighter.
Your dreams do come true. You travel the world, you get to be creative every day, and you even write and publish a book. Like Mrs. Rumphius you’re making the world a more beautiful place. There’s still time, maybe you’ll go live in a cottage by the sea too.
I need you to know that now, it’s safe for you to come to play, and you don’t have to be serious all the time or try to look out for everyone else around you. It’s safe for you to show up, keep creating, and be successful.
And guess what? We’re even going to take some ballet classes I just won’t be wearing an outfit like this again.
I love you,
-Your Future Self
